Founded in 2009, East Coast Maine Coon Rescue (ECMCR) is a non-profit organization of dedicated volunteers who are committed to rescuing Maine Coon and Maine Coon Mix cats and placing them in loving, carefully screened homes. For all things adoption, visit our website (www.ecmcr.org) to submit an application, volunteer, and view available cats.
Founder of East Coast Maine Coon Rescue
A group of volunteers started East Coast Maine Coon Rescue in the summer of 2009 when we broke away from a larger, nationwide Maine Coon group. As founder, I recruited the Board of Directors and other volunteers. Our website went live on August 1, and we had our first adoption that day! Willie was our first foster kitten. We found out he was deaf while in foster care. He was adopted by Stephanie Steyer-Wynne and recently passed away. All the members of our Board of Directors donated money to pay the $500 filing fee to obtain our 501c3. We were awarded the 501c3 a few months later. We continue to work hard as board members, managers, case managers, and fosters to save Maine Coon and Maine Coon mixed kittens and cats from kill shelters and other bad situations. We believe that education is important regarding cats living indoors only, the benefits of spay/neuter, and the horrors of declawing.
